These lyrics are adapted from the poem by Rabbi Israel Najara, a 15th Century mystic poet from Sefad, Israel. Najara’s poem eventually became a central part of wedding liturgy in the Jewish communities of Mumbai and Afghanistan. According to the traditions of these communities, the groom sings this text acapella to the bride, as she walks toward the huppah (the wedding canopy). This version is Jaffa Road’s original composition for Najara’s text, and features an improvised bass veena solo performed by Justin Gray.
