These lyrics are adapted from the traditional Hebrew poem Ben Adam, which was written by an anonymous liturgical poet many centuries ago. The complete poem is a well known component of the traditional Sephardic S’lichot liturgy which is traditionally recited daily during the month of Elul leading up to the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashana. It has been set to music many times over the centuries. The lyrics admonish us to wake up from our slumber and to do the spiritual work needed in order to improve ourselves for the coming year. This song features performances by guest artists David Wall on lead vocals and Joel Visentin on Hammond organ.
